WHY SAIL JAKAB? - STUNNING BEAUTY & STATELY HERITAGE!

“THE MOMENT WHEN THE ENGINE STOPS, THE SAILS [FILL WITH WIND], AND THE WORLD FALLS SILENT IS WHEN MOST NEW SAILORS UNDERSTAND THE BEAUTY OF THE JAKAB.”
-The Times Herald.

Enjoy a true sailing experience aboard JAKAB, a 55-foot, 19-ton, 40-passenger traditional sailing yacht offering affordable Private Events and Public Sails from Milwaukee’s beautiful harbor. Rates start at $25 per guest.

PUBLIC SAILING EVENTS

Public sails aboard sailing yacht Jakab are 70 minutes.

We serve beer ($4), wine ($4), soda ($2) and water (complimentary). Seating is comfortable with seatbacks (like a park bench). Wear or bring appropriate attire (suggest layers if Sunset Sail). We have a clean restroom (head) and large interior in case of inclement weather. We will try to provide ample notice (via telephone, text and email) in case the captain determines beforehand that weather is inclement (unsafe or uncomfortable). We sail in Milwaukee’s inner harbor unless the lake has relatively small waves, in which case we may venture outside the outer breakwall – hence, regardless of wind conditions the sail will be in relatively smooth water. We suggest you show up 30 minutes early to find street parking and please be at the boat dock 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure. Day Sails are $25 per person; Sunset Sails are $30 per person. Children under 7 sail for $20.

PRIVATE SAILING EVENTS

Sailing Yacht Jakab is the perfect venue for your summer event!

Jakab accommodates up to 40 guests and is exceptionally seaworthy, stable and fast (i.e., fun!). Private events are affordable – starting at $25 per guest. We offer catering and beverage packages – or you can bring your own food and drinks (beer and wine).

COMPANY OVERVIEW

JAKAB is an exceptional, fast and seaworthy yacht. Her design originated in 1908 – her 8-meter design won early 19th century Olympics competitions. After World War II’s interruption of America’s Cup competitions, 8-meter racing sloops like JAKAB raced in the America’s Cup races in 1958 and thereafter. One of her sisterships, “Tourjours Ete”, was owned by musical group The Beach Boys – and includes a Jacuzzi tub, piano and 16-track recording studio. Another sister ship, “Eros”, circumnavigated the globe twice. Another sistership was owned by former Senator Teddy Kennedy. Other similar hulls are sailing the three major oceans. Jakab is a vintage sailing yacht of timeless design. Notably, Jakab’s mast initially belonged to Former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath of Great Britain. When Sir Heath retired from racing he sold the mast to the former owner of JAKAB.

OUR MISSION

Jakab accommodates up to 42 passengers. Jakab offers comfortable seating on deck for 36 guests, a large galley (for preparation of catered food), head (restroom) and commodious interior (for shelter from sun or rain).

Please call 312-469-0233 for notices regarding potential daily weather cancellations. Please be advised that the captain may cancel sails up to the time of scheduled departure due to imminent inclement weather. If weather is inclement, we will reschedule your sail (when convenient for you) your services here.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Even during summer, the weather can be (much!) cooler on the lake, especially after sunset. Bring a light jacket or sweatshirt. High heels and wedges are not recommended. Our sailorly advice: when dressing up for the evening, slip a pair of flats in your purse.

  • IS JAKAB AN ACCESSIBLE BOAT?

Whereas Jakab is not legally-sanctioned as a disabled-accessible vessel, it is relatively easy for the crew to assist virtually any disabled passengers aboard so they may enjoy sailing aboard the boat. Portable wheelchairs may be stowed aboard the vessel during the sailing experience. The deck is readily accessible. The restroom requires passage down (and up) four stairs.

  • IS THERE A BATHROOM ABOARD?

Yes, Jakab does have a toilet aboard. Again, one must traverse four stairs to access the toilet.
